Our Mission


The mission of the VBTP is to support and defend the Constitutions of the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia
​by monitoring and engaging elected and unelected officials at the local, state and national levels.
The VBTP also conducts educational events on certain ballot issues.

Meeting Minutes


 Virginia Beach Tea Party Masonic Lodge 2849 Princess Anne Road, VB 23456 March 12, 2026 Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm 
Prayer: Lorraine Snyder 
Pledge: Dena Espienschied 
Speaker: Dena Espienschied from the Leadership Institute gave a presentation on Messaging to Win. She explained that there needs to be a “why” behind people’s voting decisions and how to convey the messaging to get people to vote the way you want them to. She used examples that can be utilized in the Amendment votes that will take place in April and November. 
Announcements:

  • Waverly gave an update that the paperwork for the meal tax referendum has been submitted to the judge- just awaiting approval. 
  • We need people to work early voting for the Constitutional Amendment, please see Vice Chair Teresa Chadwick and sign up for a spot before leaving this evening. There are also signs for the constitutional amendment available, feel free to take one. 
The following candidates/ representatives spoke: 

  • Chris, NRCC Battle Station team member for the Jen Kiggans campaign you may go there to pick up signs for the “NO” on the gerrymandering referendum from Monday- 10am-6pm. 
  • Laura Hughes is running to be restored as the Chair of the RPVB. The Chairman canvass is Saturday, March 21 from 10am-3pm at Princess Anne High School. She is having a meet and greet on Wednesday March 18 at Pungo Sports Bar  
  • Elaine Fekete is running for City Council, District 2 ​
Carol Kinsey gave a School Board update. The budget was discussed. Woodstock Elementary is over capacity and may have to be rezoned.  School will be in session during the April 21 Constitutional amendment referendum vote. 
Business Meeting: 
A quorum was declared. 

  • Minutes were approved for the February meeting, with motion made by Dan Fair and seconded by Trena Callis. 
  • Larry gave the Treasurer’s report: It was asked if we could use money in the treasury to donate to candidates. Due to our non-partisan status, we cannot, but Waverly encouraged members to donate on their own as they can afford to. 
  • Dianna Howard reported that Collective Bargaining did not pass the General Assembly. 
  • Garden Tea Party- 3 more tables are needed. The theme is the celebration of our nation celebrating 250 years. Tickets are now on sale. 
  •  House of Delegates District 98 is having their Special Election on Tuesday, March 17 to replace The Honorable Barry Knight, who recently passed away. The candidates are C. Andrew Rice and Cheryl Smith. 
 With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:10pm.

-Prayer: conducted by Maureen Fuster
-Pledge of Allegiance: led by Republican National Committeewoman Patti Lyman
-Chair briefly discussed Article 5 Conventions and candidates
Guest Speaker:
- Republican National Committeewoman Patti Lyman gave a presentation on the current events within the National and State Republican Parties and the state redistricting efforts of the Democratic Party of Virginia
-50/50 raffle winner was Dan Fair

- Reports:
   • Treasurer – Reported Bank of America account: $10,732.48 PayPal: $262.59 Total Balance:  $10,995.07
   • Events Committee – Discussed the upcoming Garden Tea Party
   • School Board Liaison – Gave update on Virginia Beach School Board, and that Kathleen Brown and Carolyn Weems were voted to Chair and Vice Chair respectively
   • Communication Chair – Gave a report on the status of certain bills in the Virginian Legislative Assembly

 Michelle a visitor and Venkat Eleswarapu candidate for District 2 City Council.

Business meeting: Determination of Quorum – a quorum was determined. 
9) Approval of Minutes: Paul Langille motioned to approve; Laura Hughes seconded to approve. Minutes from the November meeting were approved. 
10) Treasurer Larry Korn gave his report
11) Report of Committee reports: 
a. Communications  
b. Membership
c. Events: Garden Tea Party planning is starting soon. VDCL will have a bus for Lobby Day. 
12) Old Business: We now have two storage units for items that we use to store chairs for events.  We will also be storing our items for Tea Party events, so those who have it at your home, please get with Buddy or Waverly to coordinate moving items. 
13) Chairperson Announcements or Remarks: Waverly spoke about her experience at the Turning Point conference and brought souvenirs back for the taking. 
14) Announcements: Adopt a Spot is tomorrow. It was also mentioned that we need to hold officials accountable regarding the ceasing of the wind turbines after President Trump’s order to end windmills off the coast.
