Our Mission

The mission of the VBTP is to support and defend the Constitutions of the United States and the Commonwealth of Virginia
​by monitoring and engaging elected and unelected officials at the local, state and national levels.
The VBTP also conducts educational events on certain ballot issues.

Call to Order: Waverly Woods called the meeting to order at 7:05pm.

Recognition of Elected Officials Present:
 Introduction and Presentation of Speaker:
Venkat Eleswarapu, Ph. D, Finance on the Financial Impact from the Dragas Golf Development Proposal.
​Venkat gave his presentation on the potential financial consequences of the Virginia National Golf Club and rebuilding the course to allow condominiums and townhomes to be built along the course, along with a day care center. Everyone is encouraged to contact their council and encourage them to vote NO as well as attending the City Council meeting this Tuesday July 14. 
 
Brief Recess with Announcements and 50/50 Raffle
Annie Palumbo with the Family Foundation is seeking people to volunteer for getting the vote on the Constitutional Amendments that will be on the ballot in November.
Adopt a Spot will be tomorrow at 10am at Pembroke Lake Circle.
VBCPS has received $1million in revenue. Chromebooks have been removed for grades K-2. Starting in 3rd grade the students get introduced to them.
 
Candidates that spoke were Patrick Molsolf who is running for the democratic nomination for Congress in the 2nd Congressional Race and Kendra Edwards who is running for District 6 School Board.

Dianna Howard motioned to approve, and Paul Langille seconded. Minutes for the June meeting were approved.

Pledge: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Buddy Wall.
Recognition of Elected Officials present: 
Presentation: Introduction of Speaker: There will be no speakers so we can focus on our Repeal the Meal Petition Drive. This meeting is fellowship and sharing our experiences regarding collecting signatures for the petition.  There is a potential partnership with YNot Pizza- more to come. One of the concerns brought up was that there is an online petition for repealing the meal tax. Information about the Virginia Beach Development Authority will be revealed next week.  It was brought up for future Friday night tailgate dinners to be held at the restaurants that support our cause. It was also discussed about legal rights regarding being on public property collecting signatures.

Guest Speaker:
- US Militia Commander Elias Humiston gave a presentation on the volunteer non-profit organization, the US Militia LLC. He discussed the history of the militia in the early American Colonies and how it shaped the United States. He further discussed the legality of the militia as detailed in U.S. and VA code, and how the militia is utilized in modern times.  
Announcements:
-Teresa Langille gave update on the Garden Tea Party which will be held on Sunday June 14th at 3pm
-Carol Kinsey gave School board updates regarding the upcoming school board vote regarding Chromebooks in schools.
-Diana Howard gave the City Council update regarding a $2.6 million land sale deal with the city and how real estate taxes are going to go up ________ due to increase in property assessments.
-Elain Fekete discussed her candidacy for City Council District 2
-Kathlene Brown discussed her candidacy for School Board District 10

Virginia Beach Tea Party Masonic Lodge 2849 Princess Anne Road, VB 23456 March 12, 2026 Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm 
Prayer: Lorraine Snyder 
Pledge: Dena Espienschied 
Speaker: Dena Espienschied from the Leadership Institute gave a presentation on Messaging to Win. She explained that there needs to be a “why” behind people’s voting decisions and how to convey the messaging to get people to vote the way you want them to. She used examples that can be utilized in the Amendment votes that will take place in April and November. 
Announcements:
  • Waverly gave an update that the paperwork for the meal tax referendum has been submitted to the judge- just awaiting approval. 
  • We need people to work early voting for the Constitutional Amendment, please see Vice Chair Teresa Chadwick and sign up for a spot before leaving this evening. There are also signs for the constitutional amendment available, feel free to take one. 
The following candidates/ representatives spoke: 
  •  Chris, NRCC Battle Station team member for the Jen Kiggans campaign you may go there to pick up signs for the  “NO” on the gerrymandering referendum from Monday- 10am-6pm. 
  • Laura Hughes is running to be restored as the Chair of the RPVB. The Chairman canvass is Saturday, March 21 from 10am-3pm at Princess Anne High School. She is having a meet and greet on Wednesday March 18 at Pungo Sports Bar  
  • Elaine Fekete is running for City Council, District 2 ​
Carol Kinsey gave a School Board update. The budget was discussed. Woodstock Elementary is over capacity and may have to be rezoned.  School will be in session during the April 21 Constitutional amendment referendum vote. 
Business Meeting: 
A quorum was declared. 

  • Minutes were approved for the February meeting, with motion made by Dan Fair and seconded by Trena Callis. 
  • Larry gave the Treasurer’s report: It was asked if we could use money in the treasury to donate to candidates. Due to our non-partisan status, we cannot, but Waverly encouraged members to donate on their own as they can afford to. 
  • Dianna Howard reported that Collective Bargaining did not pass the General Assembly. 
  • Garden Tea Party- 3 more tables are needed. The theme is the celebration of our nation celebrating 250 years. Tickets are now on sale. 
  •  House of Delegates District 98 is having their Special Election on Tuesday, March 17 to replace The Honorable Barry Knight, who recently passed away. The candidates are C. Andrew Rice and Cheryl Smith.
